The Lagos State Commissioner of Police (CP) Idowu Owohunwa, yesterday said the command arrested 42 suspected cultists across the state in two weeks.
He said his operatives recovered 10 firearms, 13 cartridges, knives and assorted charms from them the suspects arrested at Ikorodu, Ijora and Ebute-Meta areas of the state.
Owohunwa stated this while parading the suspects at the command’s headquarters in Ikeja.
The Nation on Monday reported that the police carried out major raids of cultists that led to the arrest of many including suspected killers of an Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) at a checkpoint in Ikorodu.
According to Owohunwa, the suspects were apprehended after he deployed tactical operatives from the command headquarters to different police divisions.
He said hard evidence were found against those being paraded in the course of screening, adding that investigations revealed the suspects used semi automatic and automatic shotguns to wreak havoc.
“We have decided not only to arrest cultists, but to go after the fabricators of arms to nip attacks on innocent people or their perceived enemies in the bud,” he said.
