The publisher of a community-based magazine, (Rugipo Hangout) Comr. Obasekola Olanrewaju Ahmed, popularly known as Obalee has felicitated Muslim students on the occasion of this year’s Eid-el-Kabir festival.
Obasekola, in his congratulatory message to the students on Tuesday, noted that Eid-el-Kabir commemorates the sacrifice of Abraham/Ibrahim, stressing that the occasion portends merriment for all Muslims around the world.
The publisher cum journalist who urged the Muslim students to shun dissolute and degrading aspect of human nature, said it was imperative for all and sundry to adhere to the etiquette of Eid.
He said, “Eid al adha, which is popularly called Sallah also referred to as Ileya festival in Yoruba language, is one of the most significant feasts in Islam, which is celebrated annually. Muslims celebrate this feast which commemorates the sacrifice of Abraham/Ibrahim. It is usually a time of celebration and feasting for all Muslims around the world.
“However, Prayer is a crucial part of Eid celebrations. On this day, Muslims join in congregational prayer and give thanks to Allah (SWT). The Ileya feast is usually celebrated for three days, and is welcomed in by the Eid Salah (prayer).
“It’s so sardonic that most Muslims brothers and sisters sees this celebration as a day to lavish on alcohol even going to club to fornicates. This is very bad and ungrateful of what Allah (SWT) has done for mankind. On this special day. Recall that if not for the mercy of the Almighty on mankind each Eid Al adha, every first child shall be used as sacrifice.
“Therefore I urge our Muslim students to adhere to the etiquette of Eid by starting the day with ghusl (the ritual ablution). It’s sunnah to eat something (you may be a bit out of practice!). The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) ate dates before going out to prayer.
“You should wear your best clothes, preferably new ones – Women should not wear something that will exposed their bodies when they go out to the ‘Eid prayer, for the prophet (SAW) has said “Let them go out looking decent”
“There is no need to pray nafilah, just sit and keep reciting Takbir before the arrival of Imam. Allah Knows best)
He added, “Praise Allah – Supplicate on your way to ‘Eid (Allahu Akbar, Allahu Akbar, Laillaha illalahu Allahu, Akbar, Walillahil Hamd) and it should continue the whole day.
“Say the general takbeerat on the way to Eid prayer. Make sure you pay your Fitrana (Zakat ul Fitr) before Eid prayer in order to not miss out!
“As we felicitate with our Muslims brothers and sisters, it is good for both Muslims and Christians to know the significance of this feast.
