5 NOLLYWOOD STARS, YOU WOULD NEVER IMAGINE ARE FROM KOGI STATE

It’s indeed fascinating to explore the roots and origins of our beloved celebrities, especially those in the Nigerian movie industry, Nollywood. After thorough research, I’ve compiled a list of five stars in Nollywood who have their roots traced back to Kogi State. These individuals have either parent or their paternal lineage hailing from Kogi State. Brace yourself, as I’m certain this revelation will leave many jaws dropped among fans:

  1. Joseph Benjamin was born on the 9th November 1977. He is a Nigerian actormodelsingerVoice-over Artist and television presenter mainly known for co-hosting MTN‘s Project Fame, a talent reality show, and starring in the movies Tango With MeMr. and Mrs., and Murder at Prime Suites. Joseph was born on 9 November 1977, to a Kogi State indigene father and an Anambra State mother.

 

2. Nancy Ameh, a Nigerian actress and model, was first discovered by the award-winning and highly talented actress Mercy Johnson Okojie, who hails from Kogi Central, Kogi State. Ameh rose to prominence last year following her standout performance as Inikpi in the Nigerian epic drama film, “The Legend of Inikpi.” Her portrayal garnered widespread acclaim and brought her into the spotlight. Additionally, she has showcased her acting prowess in the Nollywood movie “University of Cruise.”

3. Rekiya Yusuf is an award winning Nigerian actress, host and TV presenter born on November 28, 1990. Rekiya was born in Kaduna but originally from Okene part of Kogi State. She is the fourth child in a family of five children.

Rekiya Yusuf came to limelight for her role as Mimi in the TV series ‘Flatmates’ alongside the likes of Yaw, Basketmouth and Buchi the comedian. She played the role of “Valerie” in Sunkanmi Adebayo’s 2015 drama film, Spotlight, also starring Segun ArinzeDesmond ElliottOmoni Oboli , and others.

In 2017, Nigeria’s Guardian Newspapers published that the Nigerian filmmaker, John Njama, was set to direct a television drama series entitled, My Flatmates, to feature Rekiya Yusuf, Bright Okpocha (Basket Mouth), Steve Onu (Yaw), Okey Bakassi, Buchi the comedian, Emmanuel Ikubese, Scarlet Sotade, and Wofai.

  1. She was nominated for a Best Actress (TV series) award at the second edition of the Ghana-Naija Showbiz Awards (GNSA), held in LagosNigeria on October 14, 2018.

 

4. Yetunde Barnabas is a Nigerian actress, model, and film producer. A winner of the 2019 Miss Tourism Nigeria, Yetunde is best known for role as Miss Pepeiye in the Nigerian family television sitcom, Papa Ajasco and Company. YETUNDE BARNABAS WAS BON on August 30th 1994 in Ilorin Kwara state but she’s originally from Kogi state in the North Central region of Nigeria not much is known about her biological family but she’s set to be the first of three daughters in her family. Her father passed away in 2007 leaving them in the care of their mother. Her popularity is no doubt linked to her beauty for which she has received awards and recommendations from notable companies in Nigeria however the popularity of our role in Papa Joshua deserving attention to her personality with many hoping to know more about our life behind the big screen.

5. Halima Abubakar: A talented actress, Halima Abubakar hails from Kogi State. She has appeared in numerous Nollywood films and has gained recognition for her roles. Halima Abubakar, who is of Ebira extraction in Kogi State recently took the centre stage at the Ebira Day Carnival that held in December representing the First Lady of the State, Hajia Rashidat Bello, at the function.

  1. She began acting in 2001 when she played a minor role in Rejected. Her first lead role was in Gangster Paradise. She is also the CEO of a Modehouse Entertainment, a music label and entertainment management company.
