Nigerians in diaspora celebrates “NIDO” 20th anniversary, solicit for franchise abroad 

Nigerians In Diaspora Organization NIDO, on Saturday pomp a pageantry in Abuja, as Nigerians living abroad, under the aegis of Nigerian in Diaspora Organisation in Europe (NIDOE), gathered in Nigeria as usual for its annual feast.  This year celebration was in a grand style as the event commemorated the 20th year’s milestone of the organization’s existence, as NIDOE seized the occasion to reiterates its position on her demands for diaspora franchise vis-a-vis direct participation in governance in Nigeria.

The organisation whose members are exploring however making Nigeria proud at various levels of endeavor offshore and at home, more importantly, the much talk about diasporan remittances, the weeklong 20th anniversary celebration highlighted activities such as A Week in and for Nigeria; NIDO Europe Foundation Launching; Diaspora Day and Homeland Development, NIDO Europe 20th anniversary, and the launching of the association’s diaspora journal, “Diaspora Insight (A Journal of NIDO Europe), among others.

NIDO solicits to President Tinubu’s administration to ensure the age-long demands for diaspora voting becomes a reality, the Continental Chairman, NIDO Europe, Dr Bashir Olalekan Obasekola, minced no words, he expatiate the goal of NIDO, says the 20th anniversary of the body is a unique one. He pointed out that the event would have been celebrated in the year before save for the effects of COVID 19 among other reasonings.

“He added that “NIDO is Nigerians In Diaspora Organization, it is for homeland development. Stating that the essence of the organization created in the year 2000, started in the Americas and later in Europe. It was created by then-president Olusegun Obasanjo when he traveled and discovered that many Nigerians are doing great things outside the country.”
